Leads come in varying degrees of hardness. B hardnesses are softer leads; with more B's making a softer lead. H hardnesses are degrees of hardness, with more H's making a harder lead. Therefore, a 6B lead will make a darker line, and a 8H lead will make a more precise, lighter line and keep a super sharp point longer. F and H leads are intermediate leads, with the F slightly softer.
